How often should you have a gardener visit?
For most Wirral gardens, a fortnightly visit through the growing season keeps everything in shape without paying for more than you need. Large plots or fast-growing gardens benefit from weekly visits from April to September, and most gardens can drop to monthly over winter.
Fortnightly is the sweet spot for most gardens
From April to September, grass, hedges and weeds grow fast enough that a monthly visit means the gardener spends the first half of every visit catching up rather than improving anything. A fortnightly visit keeps the lawn in a healthy cutting range, stays on top of weeds before they seed, and keeps edges and borders looking deliberate. It is the schedule most of our maintenance clients settle on.
When weekly makes sense
- Large plots — more lawn and hedge than can be done well in one fortnightly slot.
- Peak growing season — a wet, warm May or June can push a fortnightly lawn past the point where a single cut looks tidy.
- High-visibility gardens — front gardens, rentals being marketed, or anywhere that needs to look sharp every week.
When monthly is enough
- October to March, when growth slows right down — visits shift to leaf clearance, tidy-ups and checking the garden over.
- Low-maintenance gardens that are mostly paving, gravel, evergreen shrubs and established planting with little lawn.
The case for a regular slot over ad-hoc visits
A booked recurring slot means the same gardener each time, so nothing is forgotten between visits and the standard stays consistent. It also means priority scheduling when the weather is against everyone, and — on our Direct Debit plan — 10% off every visit. One-off visits are always available, but most one-off clients switch to fortnightly once they see the difference a regular rhythm makes.
What a regular visit covers
A standard maintenance visit is mowing, edging and strimming, weeding of beds, borders and paths, hedge and shrub trimming to shape, deadheading and seasonal tidy-ups, and leaf and litter clearance — finished with a photo report sent straight to you.
Common questions
Is monthly garden maintenance enough?
From October to March, usually yes. From April to September, monthly visits tend to mean the garden is always being rescued rather than maintained — fortnightly works out better value because each visit improves things instead of just catching up.
Can I change the frequency through the year?
Yes. Most clients run fortnightly through the growing season and drop to monthly over winter. We adjust the schedule with you rather than locking you into one frequency all year.
Do I need a contract?
No long tie-in. Recurring maintenance can be cancelled any time. Setting up GoCardless Direct Debit gets you 10% off every visit and priority booking, but it is optional.
